Presidential hopeful Scott Walker to start Texas tour in Dallas ...

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is blazing through Dallas Wednesday, and it’s not just to pick up checks.

The Republican presidential contender is holding a meet and greet at the Highland Park Soda Fountain in Knox Henderson. It’s part of a three-city Texas swing that includes stops in San Antonio and Midland.

The last time I saw Walker in Texas was during a 2012 Chinese economic summit at Cowboys Stadium. He told me that he had fond memories of the place because it was where his Green Bay Packers last won the Super Bowl.

Walker is in the middle of the pack in the GOP race for president. In most polls he trails real estate tycoon Donald Trump, famed surgeon Ben Carson and even Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

The Texas Republican primary is March 1. Though Cruz and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry are the leading contenders in that race, candidates like Walker can win delegates by doing well in various Texas congressional districts. The primary is not a winner-take-all affair, so many candidates are expected to campaign here.

Walker is most known for taking on the unions in the swing state of Wisconsin, where he survived a recall effort.

Candidates don’t come to Texas without their hats in hand, so I’ll have more about Walker’s Dallas visit later.

Below are details of the public portion of Walker’s Texas tour.

Earlier Posts - Whale Oil Beef Hooked

A change to the contentious Easter trading laws is in the works.

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Michael Woodhouse says the Government wants to change the rules so it’s up to local councils to decide whether shops and businesses can open on Easter Sunday.

Michael Woodhouse? Michael Woodhouse, Michael Woodhouse, Michael Woodhouse?  Is the government Michael Woodhouse?   It would appear he loves to read about himself in the news.

“The current rules around shop trading over the Easter period are complex and relatively arbitrary,” Mr Woodhouse said.

“The law allows certain shops selling specific items to remain open, while others must close their doors.

“It also includes several historical exemptions which allow shops in areas such as Queenstown and Taupo to open on Easter Sunday, while those in Wanaka and Rotorua cannot.

“The result is that some businesses and regions have an unfair advantage over others, and there is a demand from communities across the country to allow for shop trading on Easter Sunday.” Read more »

7Up or Sierra Mist Boxed Cake Mix « Warm Toasty Muffins

The sunlight touches this slice approvingly.

The sunlight touches this slice approvingly.

Hello everyone! <3 I’ve missed you, have you missed me? If you haven’t, don’t tell me. I like to pretend you have whilst twirling gallantly.

I’m addicted to Pinterest. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. I love Pinterest. I want to DIY everything. If you’ve been on Pinterest long enough you’ll definitely see this little chart with that pair up boxed cake mixes with sodas. There are tons of different charts but they’re all essentially the same. I’ve always been curious about them, in particular, the 7Up cake mix one. The first reason is because I LOVE 7UP! The second reason is because I love to eat fast easy cakes for when I need emergency grumpy heals.

Ingredients:

1 box of yellow cake mix I used Pillsbury’s classic yellow.
3 large eggs
1/2 C of  vegetable oil
7-8oz of Sierra Mist or 7Up. Don’t use Sprite because Sprite is gross.
1 package of lemon Jello dry instant pudding

Glaze:

1/2 C of powdered sugar
2 tbs of milk
and an additional 1 tbs of powder sugar to top the cake with

  1. Log off of Pinterest or at least keep your phone away from you while you approach the oven. It’s jealous. You’ve been spending all of your time with that phone instead of spending time with it. It’s fragile right now, feeling very upset and neglected. The way you can  remedy this situation is by genuinely apologizing to it. Show the oven the cake mix box and tell it that you’ve changed your ways and want it back in you life. Blow kisses at it and show it that new oven mitt you bought just for it. Once the oven gives you consent to preheat it, go right ahead. Preheat it 350 degrees.
  2. Before you start baking, you need to grab your laptop, tablet, or whatever you use to play music on and play your Disney music soundtrack. Disney music makes your cake come out happier, fluffier, filled with musical talent. It can’t exactly sing or play a musical instrument but it’ll make you want to dance when you eat it.
  3. Dance your way to your mixer and add your three eggs. You want to mix your eggs a bit but not too much. No one wants scrambled eggs in their cake. And if they did, they need some kind of cake doctor because that shiz ain’t right. To the eggy mixture, sift half of your cake mix and mix. Sifting the powdered cake mix helps the cake batter become less grumpy and lumpy and more fabulous and fluffy. Now add the oil, and the rest of the mixture alongside the packet of powdered lemon pudding and mix once again.Warm Toasty Muffins 7Up cake
  4. Your cake mix is done! Or you think it is. Wash your hands before attempting to try the mix. Once your hands are washed, stare at your cake mix lovingly. Let it know it is the most precious delicious-looking mix you have beheld and then grab a spoon stick it in the batter and then EAT ITS FLESH. If it’s lemony and delicious, you’ve done well if it isn’t… I have no idea what you just made so back away slowly.
  5. If you’re using a silicone mold like I did FOR THE FIRST TIME BECAUSE I AM A CHAMPION! You’ll need a cookie sheet to place your silicone mold right in the center of. That’ll keep it from going everywhere. You want to grease any mold your using with unsalted butter or butter, butter will make it a bit darker but WHO CARES? It’ll still be delicious. Bake it for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and beautiful.
  6. Place your magnificent cake to cool. It’s glazin’ time! This is super easy and fool proof. Grab your powdered sugar put said sugar in a bowl, add the milk to it and mix. BAM GLAZE! If you’re feeling extra magical, add some cinnamon to it or vanilla or even lemon! Do as you wish. It’s your stinking cake.
I am a cake that is done.

I am a cake that is done.

  7. Is your cake cooled? Then poke some holes in it and cover it in glaze. I like to pour the glaze when it’s a little warm and watch it soak it up like a baby sponge. But if you don’t like that and rathe the hardened glaze stuff then wait until the cake in entirely cool. Once it’s glazed, powder the lemony goddess with powdered sugar. Then serve once slice to anyone who watched you make it and proceed to hide and your room with the rest of the cake.
I am a cake that is glazed, cooled, covered in powdered sugar and done. I am incredibly moist and tempting. Eat me!

I am a cake that is glazed, cooled, covered in powdered sugar and done. I am incredibly moist and tempting. Eat me!

Madden 16: Analyzing Highest and Lowest Expert Review Scores ...

Almost without exception, online reviewers have raved about Madden 16. I’m in that category. I scored the game an 8.4, and to be honest, the more I play, I’m not so sure it isn’t even better than that.

The game is by no means perfect. There’s a few returning legacy issues, like a lack of pre and postgame presentation, and a few too many spectacular catches. However, those issues are drowned out by beautiful graphics, the best gameplay the series has ever delivered, a new addictive mode called Draft Champions and some notable in-game presentation improvements.

Loving Madden 16

image provided by EA Sports

There were a few reviewers who liked Madden even more than I did. Louis Edwards of PlayStationLifestyle.net scored the game a 9.0, which is tied with Polygon.com’s Owen S. Good for the highest scores for Madden 16 on Metacritic.

Edwards writes: “Madden NFL 16 truly is more than just a roster update as EA added enough new features to kick the game up a notch to another level. The question now is: what can they do for Madden 17?”

Edwards cites the new aggressive catches, improved quarterback and wide receiver experience, smoother running game, improved soundtrack and Draft Champions as positives. The only negatives he points out are the lack of carryover saves from Madden 15, the slow process to skip the pregame presentation and the absence of a PS Vita version.

I mostly agree with Edwards’ points. Madden desperately needs to implement carryover saves. Then again, just about every sports video game franchise needs to add this to its games. As of now, MLB: The Show is the only franchise that understands the importance of the feature. There’s no better way to keep franchise gamers coming back than to allow them to continue the virtual history they’ve created from previous versions.

The aggressive catches look pretty cool, but it feels like they happen a little too much. Aside from that, Edwards and I are on the same page.

Hating on Madden 16

image provided by EA Sports

Not everyone was as enthused with Madden 16. Steven Hansen of Destructoid was clearly not impressed, as he gave the game a 6.5. He wrote:

Load times, too, are still a bit of a problem (and intrusive presentation elements are bothersome when running a hurry up offense). The insistence towards microtransaction-laden Ultimate Team and the new fantasy football-cribbed Draft Champions modes is useless. Throwing, catching, and defending throws have seen some welcomed, long-ignored additions that get a couple yards closer to faithful simulation. You can decide if that’s enough.

There’s a lot there and even more in other parts of Hansen’s review, where he goes in on Madden‘s in-game advertisements and the “boring” interactive Super Bowl intro. Those last two details are somewhat irrelevant, though.

It seems odd to detract from a game because of an intro that is really only meant to be played once. That said, I agree with Hansen—it is pretty whack. But to put it plainly, who cares? That’s not why I bought the game.

As far as the in-game advertisements go, those don’t bother me. This is business, and EA Sports, just like any other gaming developer, has the right to take advantage of the platform it creates. The ads aren’t overdone, and it actually makes the experience feel more like a real television broadcast.

Hansen also takes a shot at Madden Ultimate Team, which is understandable. Many people have an issue with a game that encourages you to spend real money to compete. Here’s the thing: You don’t really need to spend money to play the mode well.

The people who are a little impatient, and perhaps less skilled, feel that they need to buy a ton of packs to get the great players. It can be helpful, but it isn’t necessary.

Perhaps the most bewildering slight from Hansen’s review is the section about Draft Champions. He simply calls it “useless.” It would have been great to have an explanation of what makes it useless. In many ways, it’s like MUT without the microtransactions

In any case, to each his own, but the variance in reviews is the reason gamers should always read more than one take before making a decision. Know your reviewer, and find out which one is most like you.

Ducks 'n a Row: Buffalo Chicken Dip

Yum

By Sinea Pies

There is something about football season that inspires me to start making all sorts of salty snacks. Appetizers fit any time of year but August through Super Bowl Sunday seem to be the most popular for all types of dips, canapes and snacks.

My future daughter-in-law, Shauna, introduced us to Buffalo Chicken Dip. It is so easy to make and, for anyone who loves Buffalo-style Chicken Wings, is bound to become a favorite.

Here's the recipe:

football food, appetizer, snack, dip, buffalo chicken

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Serves 14-16

Ingredients

1 8 oz. pkg cream cheese- softened

1 large can (10 oz) chicken

Hot sauce

Blue cheese dressing (or ranch)

Mozzarella cheese (shredded)

Tostitos “Scoops” or another brand of tortilla chips

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°

Spread: softened cream cheese in an oven-safe, microwavable* 1 quart baking dish.

Layer: chicken, hot sauce, blue cheese dressing, shredded cheese.

Bake: 350° oven for 20-25 minutes until hot and bubbly.

*Though you will be heating the dip in the oven, you may wish to "nuke it" (reheat it) later on so, use a baking dish that is microwave-safe.

Vegas Sports Betting Odds | Sports Betting Bonuses | Odds Shark

Sports betting bonuses are promotions run by bookmakers as a marketing tool. These bonuses usually take the form of offers of free cash “just for signing up,” or for depositing a certain amount of money or placing a certain wager. Bonuses are the online version of casino comps – perks designed to draw in more business.

Bonuses have been a part of the online sportsbook industry since its inception. Though bonuses have changed over the years, the basic premise is the same. Sportsbooks throw bonus offers around as their primary means of advertisement.

How Sportsbook Bonuses Work

How can bookmakers afford to give money away? The most straightforward answer is that they can’t – and they don’t. Bonuses are designed to attract your attention with the promise of money but make it difficult for you to actually get your hands on it.

There’s nothing illegal about this – if a store offers you a “buy one get one free” deal, there will be certain restrictions you have to deal with in order to get your free item. The trouble with online gambling bonuses and giveaways is that they’ve become really watered-down, with ever-higher wagering requirements and other complications that turn offers of free cash into a minefield of red tape.

Now don’t go thinking I’m against bonuses – I’m not. I am, however, realistic about my prospects.

If a sportsbook offers me “up to $100” in bonus cash, I accept ahead of time that I may only ever see $5 or $10 of that cash because of the bonus parameters and the way I wager. But isn’t it still worth chasing that free $5 or $10 wager? I’m not fatalistic about bonuses – just realistic.

A Note on Wagering Requirements

Before you learn about the different types of bonuses available, make sure you understand wagering requirements – sometimes called “rollover requirements.” These are often listed with numerical values like 5x or 25x or whatever. This number tells you how much you’ll have to wager in order to clear your full bonus amount.

This is how the sportsbook keeps from going broke handing out bonuses – you have to be a loyal customer in order to earn your free stuff. Not all bonuses have wagering requirements, but the vast majority do.

Types of Sportsbook Bonuses

Here’s a quick guide to the basic categories of bonuses you’ll come across while researching online sportsbooks:

Sign-Up Bonuses

This is a generic term for bonuses made available to new depositors. It’s usually the largest and most-advertised bonus at an online book, splashed across banner ads and mass emails. The idea is to incentivize people “signing up” for an account by promising them money, usually in the form of a deposit match. The match rates and maximum earnings vary from book to book – I’ve seen match rates everywhere from 10% to 200% of your qualifying deposit. If you see a wagering requirement more than 8x, you should run the other direction. Even US-facing books are offering rollover rates as low as 4x for sports bets.

Deposit Match Bonuses

If a bonus doesn’t require that you be a first-time depositor, it’s probably a good-old deposit match bonus. This is a basic match bonus wherein the site will match your deposit at a certain percentage and up to a certain amount. Match rates vary across the industry – outside of sign-up deposit match bonuses, you probably won’t find one for sports bettors above 5-10%.

Free Bet Bonuses

The second most common form of match, besides a deposit match, is the free bet bonus. This offer is particularly popular at online sportsbooks as opposed to casinos. This not only incentivizes existing customers to try their hand at the sportsbook (with the promise of a free bet bonus), it also attracts new sports bettor members for a quick “worry-free” wager. Basically, a site will match the money you deposit in the form of a free (and immediate) wager – if you lose, you can usually redeem your losses with another bonus which, of course, requires a rollover, usually around 4x for sports bet rebates.

Reload Bonuses

Bonuses are considered “reload bonuses” when they incentivize adding new funds to your account. Imagine you run a sportsbook – how do you keep customers coming back after they just lost all their money to you? By offering them a special match rate bonus for reloading their account. Usually, these take the form of a percentage match rate capped at a specific amount.

Sports Betting Bonuses Conclusion

Bonuses are fun, so long as you follow a few key principles:

Key Bonus Principles
  • Don’t make a deposit at a sportsbook just to earn a bonus.
  • Don’t ignore the terms and conditions.
  • Don’t expect to get something for nothing.

If you don’t find a deposit bonus offer you like, you may have luck contacting customer support for a special offer. This is especially true for customers depositing a larger amount of money – say $1,000 or more. Sites love bettors with money ready in hand, so contact the cashier department at your favorite book before your next deposit. You may earn a little bonus money just for being you.
