As an All-New Chevy Sonic launch campaign, the Sonic has been doing stunts since last fall starting with a Sonic skydiving. The series of death defying acts were aired during the commercial spots of Super Bowl 2012. All the vehicles used in the stunts are modified.
Skydive
Chevy took it’s first skydiving jump in the desert of Arizona with a world champion skydiver who captured the moment in one take. The Sonic was pushed by man off the airplane and in 0.4 second the car went from zero to 60 mph. There are many versions to this commercial but not one shows the landing scene. There were many comments on Youtube asking for the landing shot.
Bungee
As part of Chevy Sonic stunt series, Sonic decided to do a bungee in Long Beach. The only way Sonic was going to bungee off the 100-feet platform was with 2.5million clicks from online viewers. When there were enough clicks, Sonic made a calculated bungee off the platform and dipped into a rubber pool. This was a live streaming online.
Rob Dyrdek Kickflip
Rob performed a “kickflip” with a Sonic as part of All-New Chevy Sonic launch campaign. The kickflip was a full 360 degree rotation off a ramp, over the world’s largest skateboard Rob created.
OK Go- Needing/Getting
OK Go and Chevy Sonic teamed up to make a music video for Needing/Getting. The shoot took 4 days but 4 months of preparation time looking for the right materials and detailed calculation of placements of the 1500 instruments. The lead singer, Damian Kulash, took stunt driving lessons for this shoot. They took several takes going over the 2 mile musical track formed in a desert just outside of Los Angeles.
