Will Future Video Streaming Kill Ad Dollars? | Citizen Hill

What is the future of online video streaming? As time goes on, social media becomes increasingly integrated with the video experience, but where is it taking us?

In my opinion, it is only a matter of time before the live television format becomes so integrated into the Internet that the whole advertising game is changed. The introduction of online viewing will drive down ad pricing due to increased competition for audiences (ah, capitalism is fun).

So will Super Bowl ads continue to cost millions of dollars? Not if it’s streamed on the NFL Facebook page where people can interact while watching. Hopefully that won’t prevent celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld from hawking cars with the Soup Nazi.

Personally, I’m hoping that this new frontier in advertising will allow me to watch television while clicking that wonderful “skip” button you see in YouTube ads. Or perhaps a customizable option will be allowed where you can choose to get all the ads played at the very beginning of a program instead of throughout.

It’s unclear as to when this integration with traditional media and online video streaming will take place. But either way, Citizen Hill will always be a place where no ads are ever played… unless, of course, Jerry Seinfeld comes knocking.
