1. Packers: They were the best team in the NFL every week last year except two. They will be the best team every week often this year.
2. Giants: It will be difficult to maintain the hot streak they were on in the postseason, but you have to give the defending champions their due.
3. Patriots: They probably were one play away from being Super Bowl champions.
4. Ravens: If they can overcome the loss of LB Terrell Suggs, the Ravens will be right there.
5. 49ers: If QB Alex Smith can play like he did a year ago, the 49ers will be among the best in the NFL.
6. Steelers: They have a new offense, but they still know how to play defense with the best of them.
7. Saints: despite all the turmoil, this team won 13 games a year ago and still has one of the NFL’s elite QBs in Drew Brees. They will miss coach Sean Payton, however.
8. Texans: They have all the signs of a team that is ready to bust out. All they need is good health and a little luck.
9. Bears: They won only eight games a year ago, but they are a much better team than they were at the end of last year.
10. Lions: this is one of the most talented teams in the NFL, and if the Lions can play well together, they can dominate.
11. Falcons: this could be the year QB Matt Ryan takes his game, and his team, to another level.
12. Broncos: If Peyton Manning is the Peyton Manning of old, the Broncos will be a formidable opponent for anyone.
13. Bengals: They play in a tough division, but the Bengals can hang in there if QB Andy Dalton doesn’t slump as a sophomore.
14. Eagles: They were one of the biggest disappointments of 2011, which could mean they are primed to be one of the biggest surprises of 2012.
15. Chiefs: They were wrecked by injuries in 2011 and should have a strong bounce-back year in 2012.
16. Chargers: you can’t count out a team that has Philip Rivers at QB. It would be shocking if they were not in the hunt.
17. Raiders: It will be interesting to see what Carson Palmer can do during a whole season in Oakland.
18. Titans: A potential transition from Matt Hasselbeck to Jake Locker could define this team’s season.
19. Cowboys: They were a pretty good team for most of last season, but they did not play well late.
20. Panthers: If Cam Newton takes another step, and if the defense makes strides, the Panthers will be far from an easy out.
